This is Heidi's mommy - Let me tell you the rest of her story but please forgive any spelling errors. I'm writing this through the tears in my eyes.

I knew Heidi was getting older. Her frisky playfulness had changed to a dignified sauntering but she still had that special sparkle in her eyes. I had asked her doctor about her aging and he told me I'd know what to do when the time was right.

I guess he was right because one morning when Heidi got up it was as if she was no longer in her body. The luster was gone from her lovely coat and the sparkle in her eyes had been replaced with a blank stare. She didn't react to anything.

I called my friend and together we took Heidi for one last visit to Dr. Stevens. We had tears in our eyes but Heidi was oblivious to her surroundings. When Dr Stevens saw her he gently told me that this was the time.

It was the hardest decision I'd ever had to make but Heidi had been my special friend through some rough times in my life and I knew she was counting on me to do what was best for her.

I gently stroked her until all life was gone and I knew she had crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. Now I look forward to the day when we can be together to run and play in the sunshine. I know when my life on earth is over I will be greeted by warm puppy kisses from my dear friend, Heidi.

Many friends have sent me these pages that helped put words to my feelings when I couldn't. Perhaps they will help someone else.
